Birth pangs of a blog

Gosh, blog god Andrew Sullivan just linked to me. Do not tell my husband - I have promised him no-one will ever read this.
Actually, he would not mind if someone Stateside took a quick peek into our lives, he just does not want anyone living within a 50 mile radius of us reading it.
I must say blogging is nearly as exciting as childbirth and a lot less messy

What a wonderful narrative. You should be proud... you can really write!

Must say that even though I left the (American) rural life for a midsize city about a quarter century ago, life in the English countryside sounds no different. Thanks for reminding me of the joys and despairs of same.

Its all done and dusted now you know. I saw a link to you first on Iain Dale and then on Andrew Sullivan's blog. Someone in Yorkdale, Grimshire will read the blog soon enough and twig who you are.

Since I spent the first sixteen years of my life in the far north of Canada, I should have some pearls of wisdom to offer, but really I don't. There was always Hockey Night in Canada, but I was more into figure skating. And who knows where Andrew was in the fifties-early 60's! But I highly recommend his blog; you have to slog through an awful lot of American politics, which in itself is as loaded with intrigue as a John LeCarre novel, but the links to good videos, bad videos, really funny bears and other entertaining snippets makes it all worthwhile. Look far and be fearless!

You needn't worry. Your blog is fine. I started one of my own this year, although I sadly haven't written anything since the beginning of the year. Funny how we start out things with such zeal and vigor only to be ground down by the realities of adult responsibility.
But, I wanted to say that I thought your recipe for chocolate rice crispy cake was the most entertaining recipe I've ever read.:)And I would swear I've dealt with your surly shop assistant's American cousin here in Danville, Illinois. Cheers.

I cam to this blog from Andrew Sullivan and really enjoyed the writing. Keep it up!

I had wikipedia Northumberland to see where, exactly, it is. You can't get any further away from London and still be in England!
Good luck in your adventure in the "wilderness"

Thank God for the blog master Andrew. I love that he has and takes the time to search the world over for the gems that I would otherwise NEVER come across. I have bookmarked your blog and will enjoy being a voyeur into your life for years to come! My children (all boys) are grown, and while I didn't raise them rural - I did raise them - be encouraged! Children DO grow up, husbands sometimes, not so much.

I have lived in a city all of my life, I can't relate at all to living in the country, and I love your blog. Saw the link on Andrew Sullivan. Count me in as another American reader.

Love your blog. I am an Irish transplant living in California, so alot of what you are talking about takes me back. (Please don't vote tory though...).

Congratulations on your blog, your writing and the country life. My wife leaves 30 January for 2 months in Kenmare Co. Kerry. Then she will join me in Edinburgh where I am taking my two grand daughters for their first trip to the UK. I will think of you as we pass on our way from Gatwick. Frank from Ohio

I clicked over here from Andrew Sullivan because I saw the word Northumberland. I love Northumberland! The history of the place will keep you in great stories and personalities for the rest of your life. From the Vikings to the monks to the Percys to the Tudors. Wow!!! You must must must read the Percy saga by Carol Wensby-Scott. It's out of print, but you might find it at the Barter book store in Alnwick. (another reason to live in Northumberland! it's the coolest bookstore on the planet.)

Oh my god, I'm so envious. I want to live where you are.

write to me if you want more info: mayelinden at yahoo dot com.

Terrific, funny, touching writing. Andrew Sullivan does nothing without good reason.

Well, I have spotted you and thought I would come and say hello from North London.

And happy blogging! And thanks for the link

Found you through Andew S. Very interesting for me, since my undying fantasy is to move the the North Woods of the US , though my wife is less sanguine about this. Maybe your blog is a widow to her thoughts. I blog about my northern excursions from time to time, though I'm on hiatus through May.

Keep up the good work.
