Think I'm concussed. Actually pretty sure I'm concussed. I keep. I keep repeating myself. Did the silliest thing yesterday morning - fell from the top of the stairs to the bottom. I believe my lambskin slippers to be haunted. I had just started to walk down the stairs and suddenly my feet flew up in the air, I crashed down onto my arse, thought "Bugger" then continued to travel bump, bump, bump down the entire length of the stairs. My head slamming onto every stair as I careered down. I think I may have screamed the whole way and was fit for nothing by the time I reached the bottom; just lay there sobbing. Luckily my husband was in the kitchen so he was there to pick me up. Think I may have traumatised the children. I was left with the most terrible headache and a throbbing noggin yesterday and this morning when I woke up, my head still hurt. I am bruised to blazes, jarred and generally jangly with aches and pains. I also feel periodically nauseous. Forget the concussion - what is wrong with me? Can you get late onset dyspraxia? I have turned into a klutz. In the past three weeks, I have sprained my ankle jumping off a fence, walked into a door and now fallen down the stairs. It is also the second time this year I have taken a tumble down stairs although my trip was shorter last time. Perhaps I need to try doing one thing at a time. When I jumped off the fence, I was thinking about history: when I walked into the door, I was thinking about the screaming baby and when I was coming down stairs, I was thinking about my six-year-old's reluctance to do homework and whether he would opt out of university in 12 years time.
I would not mind but I have one of those phone interviews with insurance companies later this afternoon where they try to figure out if you are a safe bet to insure. I have had one before and aside from asking you a variety of highly personal medical questions which immediately make you feel like you are about to die from some horrible disease, they have a whole section on dangerous pursuits - Do you rock climb...scuba-dive...rally drive?" I hope they do not ask "Can you walk and chew gum?"

If they ask you if you walk across winter fields, or go up and down stairs, you are sunk. If they ask you if you are a fulltime Mom of three young kids, you are sunk.
Otherwise, thank God it is a phone interview! And do try not to pass out in the midst of it------

I think that sounds awful, I hate accidents like that - its scary! But I hope you feel better soon. There are conditions that cause lack of coordination if you are seriously affected, you should check. Or have you been on the booze again?
I would lie to the insurance man if I were you!!
No, they won't ask you that. They'll take it as read that you can. You are a woman, after all...
Does it seem like your head is full of cotton wool and is half a second behind you?
Do you feel, somehow, measurably stupider?
Do lights and noises seem just a little too bright and harsh?
If so, then you have a mild concussion. If you played rugby, you would already know this.
Seriously, it seems from your blog that you have - ahem- maybe gained a little bit of extra weight. Kinesthetic senses take a little while to catch up. Just be extra careful for a few months.
Cheers in San Francisco.
Just gan canny hinny.
I fell over my husband’s shoes, he had left them right out side the back door. I stepped onto them twisted and did a flying dive with pike onto brick tiles and as I swerved I hit the summerhouse. I though I was dead , or at least had multiple broken bones. Turns out it was worse, damaged tendons, pulled ligaments massive black eye, scrapes and cuts. When I came back from A and E I looked like a mummy. Comments from everyone, but you are so awkward ,you’re a klutz, time of the month eh , makes you accident prone –since when. No you dozy buggers – your dad is a dumbo who left shoes where they were just waiting for me.
Arnica. It's the best thing for bruises and sprains.
I also suspect that while you were thinking of all those things you were also mentally blogging about it all at the same time. Even as you fell down the stairs.
mutley the old dog must be having an off day - he's not offered to come and rub arnica on your bruises.
Have your eyes tested you may need specs.
By 'eck! I was hurting as I read that blog. I do hope you are okay. At least your husband was in to catch you. Take care!
Crystal xx
Oh Wifey! I hope you feel better soon. I'm a klutz too, not that it's of any comfort to you. I like to think of it as a charming quirk. Albeit a buggering painful one.
That hurt just to read - hope you mend soon.
I had a spell of walking into doors(literally) and mis -judging spaces for a month or two when my kids were little - doctor said it was a combination of exhaustion and clumsiness - I am still clumsy!
Ditch the slippers.
Sorry to hear about your fall. Sounds frightening. Rest up and get well soon.
As for the insurance interview, I hope they don't give you hassle when they hear you're a journalist. Some firms practically double the premiums on hearing that - or hint you'd be better taking the business somewhere else. I always want to explain that most journalists are responsible desk-bound citizens, but no insurance company I've ever dealt with has had much time for that. If anyone can convince them, you can Wifey!
I do hope you're feeling better very soon. What terrible luck you've been having.
ouch
Ifell down the stairs twice just like yourself really hurt my cocyx? Haven't done it since though hopefully you won't either twice is enough for anyone!
I think your body is trying to tell you something. You are not happy up North. You are not suited to life up North, with it's isolated twisty roads and a lifestyle that cries out for being handy, organized and self sufficient.
It sounds dangerous.
Ah yes, got that t-shirt. Head butted a door thresh - blogged about it too!
Don't you think your body is trying to tell you something?
Slow down. If the phone rings, then let it. If it's important they'll ring back. The kids are sceaming? well taking a couple of minutes longer getting to them won't hurt. In fact if they're screaming they can't be too badly hurt. It takes energy to scream. Its when they go quiet you should worry.
You're probably trying to do too much too quickly and getting tired in the process. Be kind to yourself.
As I said earlier, "Gan canny hinny."
Think of your readers.
I did the same thing when I was 3 months pregnant a couple of years ago. Damn slippy socks. My husband was trying to help & I was trying to laugh it off but it hurt like bugger.
I blame my clumsiness and forgetfulness on a busy life and wine.
Hope you feel better. Love your blog. XXX
Ouch - my sympathies, I don't have this screen name for nothing. I never wear slippers on the stairs even if they're 'sensible' ones and not mules.
